The 32-year-old striker´s contract will give him the option to stay with Pompey for an extra year, should he play a certain number of games this season. The Nigerian international is delighted to have put pen to paper for Harry Redknapp´s side. He told the club´s official website: "I love it here. I want to be part of the team so I´m happy to have signed my contract. "I have said from day one I love the club and I want to do more for the club. "I want to do well for the fans – they´re the best supporters in the Premier League, like the 12th man. "I´ve been together with these players for a couple of years now, and the spirit is very good. "And, of course, Harry is the main man. Everyone wants to play for him. We want to achieve great things." Meanwhile, Lassana Diarra could miss Sunday´s Community Shield tie with Manchester United at Wembley. The midfielder only returned to action last week after an extended summer break following Euro 2008 and is unlikely to feature. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
